When the fit hits the shan

I have a mild interest in cryptozoology, which is basically the study of legendary animals that may be real. The most famous of these creatures are the Loch Ness monster, Bigfoot, and the Abominable Snowman. I read this stuff not because I believe they exist, because it's funny wacky shit, sometimes literally. Behold the bonnacon!

Pliny was a famous Roman historian. He wrote,

There are reports of a wild animal in Paionia called the bonasus, which has the mane of a horse, but in all other respects resembles a bull; its horns are curved back in such a manner as to be of no use for fighting, and it is said that because of this it saves itself by running away, meanwhile emitting a trail of dung that sometimes covers a distance of as much as three furlongs, contact with which scorches pursuers like a sort of fire.

Yes, basically, it's a bull/horse that protects itself by projectile defecating. Three furlongs is about a third of a mile, so that's pretty dang far. It's usually interpreted that the feces is on fire. So instead of fire coming out of the mouth, like a dragon, there's fire coming out the ass. One wonders in Roman days, if the equivalent of fratboys tried to light cow farts on fire, leading to reports of this beast.
